// Facet Configuration

Overview

Facets are UI elements (checkboxes, dropdowns, etc.) used to filter, or “drill down”, content listings. Facets are aware of the content, and only relevant choices are displayed.

Creating a Facet

Browse to Settings > FacetWP, click on the Facets tab, then click the “Add New” button. FacetWP includes a sample facet (Categories) to help get you started.

Options

Each facet has its own set of options (which vary depending on the facet type).

Building the Index

After you’ve saved your facets, click the Re-index button. This may take a few minutes depending on how much content exists on your site, so please be patient. The progress bar at the top of the page will refresh every few seconds with the percent completion.

Using a Facet

Facets can be displayed using shortcodes (in the body field, or text widgets) or PHP (in template files). For a facet named my_facet, you can use the shortcode:

[facetwp facet="my_facet"]

Or the PHP code:

<?php echo facetwp_display( 'facet', 'my_facet' ); ?>

IMPORTANT: facets only appear if a FacetWP template exists on the page. Please see Template Configuration to learn more.
